University Art Gallery, New Mexico State University
The University Art Gallery is the largest contemporary art gallery in south central New Mexico. The UAG presents 8-10 exhibitions annually of contemporary and historical art. The UAG permanent collection of over 2,600 objects includes prints, photographs and over 1,700 Mexican retablos. The UAG offers a vigorous educational program including school tours, lectures, workshops, symposia, openings and docent training. Performing Arts

Dona Ana Lyric Opera - The opera presents four shows a year, including a Broadway musical using high school students in the summer. There are two traditional operas
performed each fall, spring and summer, using New Mexico State University students and visiting professionals. Shows are at the NMSU Music Center Recital Hall located on the NMSU horseshoe off Espina. Call for times. (575) 646-1993.

Las Cruces Symphony - The symphony presents nationally known artists during six annual concerts between October and May. Call for show times. (575) 646-3709.

Mesilla Valley Concert Band - The band performs six concerts a year between October and May. Call for times.

New Mexico State University Choral Department - The choral department puts on concerts and recitals throughout the year at the University's Music Recital Hall located on the NMSU campus. Call for show times. (575) 646-1306.

Theatres and Venues

Black Box Theatre

This theater is the home of the No Strings Theatre Company, presenting six different plays a year, mostly by contemporary, little-known or local playwrights. The Theatre is located at 430 N. Downtown Mall. Call for show times.  (575) 523-1223.  www.no-strings.org 


Fountain Theatre
The historic Fountain Theatre is New Mexico's oldest movie house.  Built in 1905, the Theatre originally featured vaudeville performances and silent films. It has been the home of the non-profit Mesilla Valley Film Society since 1989, showcasing the best independent, foreign, documentary and other alternative art films. Rio Grande Theatre
Built in 1926 on Main Street, the Rio Grande Theatre has just been renovated as a state-of-the-art performing arts center that will serve as a site for collaborative arts programs and a learning site for university and public school students. Museums

New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum
The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is an interactive museum built on 47-acres, which brings to life the 3,000-year history of farming and ranching in New Mexico.Fun and learning go hand in hand as visitors can watch a number of demonstrations about ranching operations old and new. Its memories for some and education for others. The museum has new exhibits and events year round.

Branigan Cultural Center
Located in downtown Las Cruces, NM, The Branigan Cultural Center focuses on the presentation and interpretation of the history and cultural arts of the region; in addition to a gallery dedicated to Las Cruces history. Historic artifacts dating from 1850 and cultural arts all dedicated to the history of Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley to foster awareness and understanding of the history and multi-cultural heritage of Las Cruces and its environs. Las Cruces Museum of Fine Art
The Museum of Fine Art contains over 4,000 square feet of gallery space, and contains exhibitions of contemporary art that change several times a year. The museum also has a studio arts program, offering art classes taught by professional art instructors.
