Public Schools
Las Cruces Public Schools is the second-largest school district in New Mexico. There are 24 elementary schools, 7-middle schools, and 4-high schools. The district also has one vocational high school providing career technical education (CTE) to 8th - 12th grade students. Student enrollment is nearly 24,000 students. Las Cruces Public Schools is the third largest employer in Dona Ana County with more than 3,600 employees, which includes about 2,200 classroom teachers. Private Schools
In addition to our public schools, Las Cruces also offers excellent private and faith-based schools. There are many reasons that you may want to choose a private, rather than a public school. Perhaps your child has special needs, and you are seeking an accelerated program or you may have certain values or subscribe to a belief system that you would like to have instilled along with your child's academic growth. In many cases, parents may simply be looking for a more structured learning atmosphere with smaller classes and more careful supervision. Home Schooling
New Mexico has a very organized and unique home schooling system that gives students the opportunity to learn at their own pace, under their own instructor. Moreover, New Mexico is one of the few states that accepts a GED as a high school diploma equivalent; no home school graduate will be looked at different because of a GED. New Mexico State University and the Dona Ana Branch Community College
New Mexico State University has been providing higher education opportunities statewide since 1888 and continues its legacy proudly. As of 2007, enrollment at the main campus here in Las Cruces stood at just over 28,000; even more impressively, the faculty to student ratio is 1:19. At NMSU, the combination of countless cultures, backgrounds, and ethnicities makes for a unique and diverse college experience, while still retaining the feel of a smaller, localized college with the amount of full-time staff and outreach employees. NMSU proudly offers 81 baccalaureate degree programs, 50 graduate programs, 20 doctoral degree programs, and two specialists in education programs. Eighty-four percent of NMSUs full time staff holds doctoral degrees it is clear that everyone who works for NMSU strives for student success.
The Dona Ana Branch Community College, NMSUs sister school, is a fantastic, cost-friendly option for those wishing to pursue certificates, associates degrees, or begin their schooling in a more personal style. Nearly all credits from the DACC transfer to NMSU for those wishing to pursue baccalaureate degrees or higher and the two schools Registrar offices work closely together to ensure student success. The DACC offers vocational-technical education opportunities in over 40 programs, and with enrollment exceeding 9,000 students in 2008, the DACC reaches out to all county residents.
